A division of Harris; Systems & Software, an industry leader in the Utility CIS space, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, to focus on business application development. You’ll get to design new features, maintain a best-in-breed software package, and craft quotes that will help drive our customers and the overall utility space forward. We are especially looking for engineers with experience with billing and accounting applications, and with direct experience in the utility sector. You will have the opportunity to work with some of the industry’s most brilliant minds, supported by the latest cutting-edge tools and hardware.

What will be your impact?

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to team members
  • Assist Professional Services, R&D and Support Departments with design reviews and escalated issues
  • Work with QA, promote best practices to ensure a high level of quality within the team
  • Manage code reviews and closely participate in providing feedback on others’ designs/code
  • Identify and mitigate issues and risks that could negatively impact project timelines
  • Employ accounting best practices in designing billing and reporting applications
  • Support utilities in financial auditing

What are we looking for?

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Math, Accounting, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience
  • A passion for mathematical (including algebraic) problem solving
  • Unix/Linux knowledge/background
  • Experience with Oracle and PL/SQL or MS SQL Server and Transact-SQL
  • Possess an excellent work ethic, high level of initiative, aptitude, and energy to succeed in a fast-paced environment
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills and effectively communicates well with both internal and external resources
  • Has mindset and desire to embrace learning, working well within a team or unsupervised

 

What will help you stand out:

  • Experience programming in COBOL, Visual Basic, Haskell, and/or LISP
  • Experience with billing and/or accounting applications is highly desired
  • Knowledge of the utility sector
  • Experience working directly with clients
