Vermont tops CNBC’s list of America’s Best Places to Live

Vermont placed #1 in CNBC’s annual list of America’s Best Places to Live, based on quality-of-life measures. New England neighbor Maine, also ranked well, coming in second.

The other states in the top ten list are Hawaii, North Dakota, Minnesota, Washington, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oregon, and Iowa.

They note that American workers are in the driver’s seat because there are not enough people for available jobs, and that the “calculation comes down to much more than money.”, which makes qualify of life metrics even more important now.

“The latest annual survey of Gen Z and millennials by Deloitte found nearly two in five willing to turn down an assignment if it doesn’t align with their values. If you want to attract workers, it helps to be in a place they want to go to. Plus, half the respondents in the latest survey of the CNBC Global CFO Council agreed that it is important to do business in a state where the laws are as open and inclusive as possible.”

CNBC’s Life, Health and Inclusion category considers factors such as crime rates, environmental quality, health care, the availability of childcare, protections against discrimination, and voting rights.

Vermont ranked high for Voting Rights, Childcare, Health Care, Air Quality; inclusiveness was noted as strong, but not compared to the other metrics.
