The Vermont Manufacturing Extension Center (VMEC, www.vmec.org) is one of 51 centers in the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) National Network. VMEC is hosted by the VT State College System at Vermont Technical College and operates as a not-for-profit center with a primary mission “To strengthen and empower Vermont manufacturers.” VMEC is the only organization in VT focused solely on manufacturing, and collaborates with VT state government, economic development partners, higher education, and other public and private partners to strengthen and grow Vermont’s manufacturing sector. VMEC is in its 27th year of operation.

As a VMEC Professional Manufacturing & Business Growth Advisor, you will:

● Work directly with manufacturers of all sizes to understand their challenges including workforce development, operational efficiency, and business growth and provide assistance and resources helping them improve, innovate, and increase competitiveness.

● Manage a sales pipeline and a portfolio of client accounts and projects.

● Become a vital part of a learning organization that strives to be supportive and inclusive.

● Build relationships and become a trusted advisor, in mutual support of state partners and the MEP National Network, to develop innovative, impactful programs and services.

● Stay up-to-date with technology and business advancements, trends and drivers to help manufacturing and its stakeholders thrive, strive and close critical gaps.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work primarily with Vermont manufacturers to assist them in identifying, implementing, and
integrating technology and transformation solutions.

Develop capabilities to improve and/or modernize their systems, processes and strategies to yield positive organizational goals including bottom line and top line impacts.

Develop client-specific proposals; manage and deliver consulting projects on time and within budget, while meeting and/or exceeding customer expectations and measurable impact. This includes client projects utilizing trusted third party service providers.

Respond to company inquiries by providing information, researching, and making connections with additional trusted resources when necessary to assist with a wide range of manufacturing challenges and needs.

Lead and co-present private, public, remote and on-site workshops, webinars, and other events.

Lead and contribute to VMEC internal systems improvement projects, and new product and services development projects. Leverage and develop your strengths.

Confer regularly with VMEC leadership and other team members to exchange information, plan, evaluate ongoing work, discuss new sales and service opportunities and resolve problems.

Produce and maintain records and reports in a timely manner relative to program activities, goals, and objectives. Use business systems effectively (e.g. Salesforce, Google, Microsoft, Zoom).

Promote manufacturing and VMEC’s role. Research regional business and technical topics, participate in events at the local and national level to stay current and aligned, generate leads and cultivate partnerships. Create client success stories, newsletter articles, blog posts, videos.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business Management or other appropriate discipline, plus a minimum of ten (10) years of manufacturing experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. An advanced degree or a second degree that provides cross-functional skills is desirable.

● A demonstrated passion for manufacturing, operational excellence and continuous improvement.

● Proven experience implementing continuous improvement, Lean manufacturing and innovative ideas processes, with business acumen.

● Demonstrated coaching skills and a passion for developing people and helping others succeed.

● Accountability to commitments, measurable results and superior customer service. Trust and effective long term relationship building.

● Strong communication skills in diverse settings and different modes, including one-on-one, group, in person and remote, presentation, written. Ability to comfortably and clearly communicate with client company executives, leaders and employees in any role.

● Active listening and continuous learning.

● Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects.

● Experience in assessing an organization’s needs and working across industries, with an emphasis on measurable results. Minimum of two (2) years of consulting experience desirable.

● Successful direct sales and prospecting experience. Strategic and Brand awareness and alignment.

● Ability to work from a home office, work independently, and also work as part of a mission-driven team.

● vehicle and be willing to travel extensively within Vermont and occasionally out-of-state. Valid driver’s license required.
