The Tax Manager, Enterprise Finance and Accounting Process Center of Excellence (CoE) is a critical leadership position that oversees and ensures compliance with federal, anti-money laundering, state and local tax regulations across all Cox divisions (CAI, CCI, and CEI) including This includes the development and delivery of consistent reporting/filings as well as identifying opportunities for optimizing all related financial processes.

This position will be accountable and responsible for information reporting, withholding, 1099, foreign, unclaimed property reporting, currency transaction reporting, and sales tax analysis. The role will be expected to gain a detailed understanding of dealer registration process, cash settlement, balancing functions, and vendor maintenance.


The Tax Manager, Enterprise Finance & Accounting Process CoE reports directly to the Senior Director – Enterprise Accounts Payable and serves as a partner by engaging with business leaders within the company to anticipate business issues and drive strong decision making through sound financial management and application of accounting and tax expertise.


Job Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance:

  • Provide ongoing accounting, reporting, and ad hoc tax analysis expertise to Cox business partners, including partnership with CEI Tax
  • Develop and oversee tax-related policies and procedures ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the calculation and timely reporting in the following areas:
    • Federal 1099 Reporting (and related 945 withholding, CP2100 compliance, etc.)
    • Federal 1042 Withholding and Reporting
    • Unclaimed Property Reporting
    • Sales Tax
  • Provide technical expertise related to other areas, including but not limited to:
    • Levy Notice Handling
    • Independent Contractor/Employee Compliance
  • Serve as a business partner to CEI Tax, Purchasing, Systems, Financial Reporting and Auction Accounting departments to identify opportunities to mitigate risk, share information and provide training
  • Develop on-going reporting to ensure accurate data is transmitted to the IRS, timely.
  • Ensure accurate and timely tax reporting is done for vendors, suppliers, and customers to ensure fines and penalties are not assessed
  • Monitor federal and state legislation for financial statement impact
  • Provide guidance for mergers and acquisitions, including diligence review, entity structuring, and integration planning/delivery
  • Partner with our operating divisions to provide strategic, risk-based advice for business activities
  • Manage third party accounting and legal consulting firms


Leadership & Organizational Development:

  • Manage the day-to-day responsibilities and performance of a Tax Compliance Analyst
  • Develop and implement goals, priorities and procedures relating to Tax Compliance
  • Responsible for tracking and meeting those goals and ensuring adherence to those policies and procedures
  • Identify best practices, efficiencies, and strategic methods to mitigate risk and improve efficiencies in Tax Compliance processes and reporting
  • Work with applicable Technology teams and third parties to build and test enhancements to current processes
  • Manage a robust governance process for Tax Compliance, ensuring frictionless processes and proactive communications
  • Work with internal and external auditors annually and/or as needed based on their requests for information
  • Perform special projects as required


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance and/or Accounting required.
  • Advanced Degree and/or CPA is a plus
  • 7+ years of accounting or tax experience required
  • 1 – 2 years of management or leadership experience preferred
  • 2+ years of AP and/or sales tax experience preferred
  • Proven ability to influence and to collaborate at the highest levels of corporate management
  • Experience integrating new business deals into tax processes and policies
  • Proven ability to deliver high levels of customer service
  • Demonstrated financial analysis strength
  • Experience within a Center of Excellence environment a plus
  • Global experience in a multinational organization a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication is mandatory
  • Strong leadership and people management skills including demonstrated ability to coach and mentor employees
  • Experience managing to tax deadlines and deliverables, including adapting to new/changing tax regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, and shift priorities quickly as required and rapidly adapt to changing environments
  • Ability to understand business strategy and translate into effective tactical plans

  • Proven ability to work with minimal direction, as well as be resourceful and independent in solving problems
