Vermont Telephone (Vtel) Is looking for a Service Technician.

Service Areas Covered in VT: Springfield, Chester, Windham, Saxtons River, Gratfon, Sherburne, Bridgewater, Killington, Danby, Pawlet, Middletown Springs, Wells, Hartland, Mount Holly, Cuttingsville, Wallingford, Tinmouth

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, 30 minute unpaid lunch, rotating Saturdays (day off during week)

Supervisor: Lead Technician and Chief Technology Officer

Essential Job Duties:

  • Perform maintenance and repair on analog and digital carrier systems, wireless LTE home installations and repairs, fiber to the installations and repairs and station-related activities, be able to perform basic I&R functions, and perform copper and fiber cable splicing and repair on outside plant cable.
  • Be able to install and repair all special circuits, full data, FX, etc., prepare inspection checklists and related as-builts of work under construction, work aloft by means of a ladder and / or hooks bucket truck.
  • Interact with workforce to coordinate and disseminate information to complete job assignments, interact with other departments to attain company objectives, and Responsible for maintaining assigned vehicle as well as all tools and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications and Education:

  • Able to perform the duties of the job including lifting tools, ladders, climbing ladders and poles and handling all necessary materials and supplies.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Able to work days, evening or night hours, overtime and emergency call outs in all types of weather.
  • Must be able to perceive differences in wire and cable colors.
  • Education in Digital Fundamentals and Basic Electronics
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience (Preferred):

  • Five years or more of combined experience in the area of installation and repair of telephone services and telephone plant construction.
  • Must have an understanding of basic electricity which has been demonstrated by providing a documented certificate from an accredited outside agency.
  • Must have an understanding of Digital Fundamentals and Electric Theory which has been demonstrated by a documented certificate from an accredited outside agency.
  • Must possess inside and outside plant activity and have analog and digital switch ability.
  • Must be able to perform station related activities (I&R).
  • Should be able to perform basic cable splicing and repair on outside plant cables.
