The University of Vermont’s Larner College of Medicine (LCOM) seeks an Executive Director of Strategic Communications to develop, lead, and execute a comprehensive communications and marketing plan to advance the college’s strategic priorities and elevate its reputation and visibility through engagement with internal stakeholders, news media, LCOM partners, donors, and alumni. The Executive Director is the top communications and marketing leader in the college, providing counsel to the dean and other leaders and supervising a team of 10. This position reports to LCOM’s Dean and serves on the college’s leadership team. For alignment of messaging and brand, the role has a secondary reporting line to the university’s Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (CCMO), serving also on their senior leadership team.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)         

Bachelor’s degree and eight to ten years related experience in higher education, health sciences, or healthcare communications required. Supervisory experience required. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Effective organizational and time management skills required. Familiarity with commonly used communications platforms, marketing automation, and technology tools. Ability to navigate a multi-stakeholder environment and collaborate productively with colleagues at all levels.

Desirable Qualifications              

Master’s degree in a science or medical field. Experience as a journalist. Creativity in problem-solving. Ability to synthesize complex information rapidly to provide timely counsel and guidance. Understanding of medical education and the unique role of LCOM as Vermont’s only medical college and UVM Health Network as the primary provider of healthcare in the region.
