  • At FirstLight Fiber there is a position open for an Equipment Operator
  • In conjunction with bore crew, locate/operate the directional drill using the selected bore heads and back reamers to place conduit
  • Operate all related underground equipment to perform work
  • Preform HH and Vault installations
  • Responsible for locating cables and verification in accordance with blueprints
  • Identifies utilities in the construction area and bore path
  • Dig pits, trenches or potholes as required including windows when crossing utilities
  • Restoration of disturbed job sites
  • Adhere to all established company safety policies and perform work in a safe manner
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen
  • Must be able to obtain a DOT medical card
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Complete understanding of the DSNY program and markings
  • Knowledge of utility depths and placements
  • Be able to help load and unload directional bore equipment in a manner that is secure and damage free.
  • Possess general knowledge of construction practices
  • Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks
  • Ability to work efficiently, unassisted, and collaboratively within a team environment with excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with constant interruptions.
  • Ability to document as-builts with legible penmanship and accuracy.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position
  • Ability to lift 50 – 100 lbs., 30 – 40% of the time
  • Stooping and bending 30 – 40% of the time
  • Work on uneven and loose surfaces in varying weather environments

Travel:

  • Weekly travel may be required for this position. Company will pay hotel expenses (shared room) and per diem

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Be able to read engineering/construction prints, maps, plans, and specifications

 Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in operating horizontal directional drill and equipment in accordance with company and industry standards
  • Class A CDL

Work Environment:

  • Willing to work outside in various weather conditions
  • Ability to work 10+ hours a day when necessary
  • Moderate to loud noise levels
  • Confined spaces including manholes, trenches, and tunnels
