Database Engineer

Experience: 3 - 5 Years

VIP (Vermont Information Processing) seeking an experienced database engineer to work on the creation of new, enterprise level systems as well as the maintenance of existing infrastructure. We are looking for a high energy, self-starter who loves to collaborate with various development teams.

Job Requirements

  • Create, maintain and optimize complex SQL scripts and stored procedures
  • Follow (and if necessary, refine) in-house coding standards
  • Troubleshoot/bug-fix SQL scripts
  • Maintain the transactional processing application’s databases and data warehouse
  • Support application development staff with database design and implementation
  • Use database code repositories for change management
  • Profile server resource usage and optimize as necessary
  • Assist in compliance efforts to include reporting, auditing and implementation
  • Database administration

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage all the stages of software development
  • In-depth knowledge of referential integrity constraints and indexing
  • Ability to understand and enhance complex database models


  • Minimum of 4 years of solid relational database experience
  • Minimum of 2 years working with MS SQL Server
  • Primary database: MS SQL Server, work with Snowflake, Netezza… DB2 is a plus!
