As a member of the Database Administration (DBA) team, ensure the performance, integrity, availability and security of The University of Vermont’s mission-critical enterprise software platforms. Primary responsibilities include the design, installation, configuration, upgrade and patching, monitoring and tuning of applications, middleware, fault-tolerant Oracle databases and related components to ensure data is available, protected and easily accessible by both academic and administrative solutions. Provide project management, capacity planning, change management, quality assurance, recovery, business continuity and other related services and general technical support and coordination.

 

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience) 

-Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or equivalent experience and five years of broad technical background experience to include a minimum of three years’ experience administering ERP systems and relational database management systems in large-scale production environments.

-ERP system administration experience including installation, upgrade, patching, configuration and management of web, application, batch, integration, authentication and reporting services

– Experience building and administering Oracle databases in large-scale production Linux environments

– Thorough knowledge of the entire technology stack supporting complex software systems, including operating systems, network architecture and security best practices

– Effective technical skills and demonstrated understanding of functional business processes required, including ability to enhance and expand DevOps at UVM

– Proven ability to work both independently and as a team to effectively identify, scope, prioritize and manage tasks in an environment with competing deadlines and unanticipated changes in requirements

– Highly analytical, detail-oriented and adaptable problem solver with substantial experience analyzing, troubleshooting and solving problems of diverse scope

– Keen attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills and outstanding customer service skills

– Experience developing and sustaining effective cross-functional working relationships

 

Desirable Qualifications  

– Oracle database administration experience including Data Guard, RMAN, Gateways, wallets and OEM Cloud Control

– Experience administering Ellucian’s Banner Student Information System or other student-facing core business systems or prior functional or technical experience in higher education highly desirable

– Experience administering other enterprise business systems at UVM such as Kronos, Ellucian’s Luminis Portal and Degreeworks, Accruent’s EMS and FAMIS and/or a production implementation of an integrated workplace management system (IWMS)

– Linux system administration experience including server provisioning, security, backup and recovery strategies

– Experience tuning complex SQL and working with developers to optimize data access

– Linux/Unix operating system experience and strong bash (or other shell) programming skills

– Experience installing, configuring and tuning Apache Tomcat and WebLogic application servers

– Application deployment and configuration experience using Git, Apache proxy, Rabbit MQ, CAS, SAML, LDAP and proprietary vendor tools

– Experience using PL/SQL, SQL Developer, Data Modeler, Apex and Groovy

– Experience administering enterprise load balancers, preferably F5 Big-IP, including use of iRules

– Experience with TLS Certificate generation and implementation, including Java keystores, TLS configuration and familiarity with cipher suites and other security parameters

– Experience installing, configuring and upgrading Oracle Rest Data Services

– Familiarity with JMX monitoring tools

– Experience using virtualization tools to build private test environments
