The Analytics Engineer at NRG will support product development projects that require a solid background in engineering, statistical analysis, scientific analysis and scientific programming. The position focuses on developing tools, workflows, and data visualizations for analytics, products and data services that might include optimizing process and sensor functionality, extracting knowledge from disparate data streams, understanding and detecting complex sensor fault modes, and proposing prognostic solutions using large datasets. The Analytics Engineer will support core algorithm development for NRG products, including those related to LIDAR remote sensors and additional meteorological instruments. The scope of responsibility will include scientific programming and data analysis to support product conceptualization, product definition, product design and development, operational support, test and verification, and development of services for internal and external customers. The Analytics Engineer will also represent NRG Systems as appropriate to influence relevant industry and market decisions.

The Analytics Engineer is a full-time position in the engineering department and reports to the Sr. Data Scientist. This person will work in partnership across NRG to achieve goals of the department that are in line with the company strategic plan and will embrace the high standards of NRG ethics and core values.


  • Provides processing and structuring of numerous data streams including modeled and observed atmospheric and meteorological parameters and phenomena to build large complex data sets
  • Develops and maintains data sources and analytics libraries enabling the deployment and scaling of models, advanced analytics and visualization strategies
  • Builds data analytics methods, tools, processes, libraries, and product features
  • Utilize statistical and machine learning techniques to provide data driven insights
  • Develops and executes verification and validation test plans for data tools, processes, and features
  • Estimates and plans work and works with supervisor to integrate tasks and estimates into project plans
  • Remains current with market trends and relevant innovations in analytics and renewable energy
  • Develops technical presentations and papers for internal and external audiences
  • Supports the development of document content for NRG Systems’ global industry markets
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, Meteorology, or Atmospheric Science or equivalent (defined as a high school diploma/GED and 4 years of progressive experience as an engineer within the appropriate field of study)
  • Minimum of 3 years statistical data analysis experience
  • Minimum of 2 years python experience
  • Demonstrated skill with tools and techniques for processing, analyzing, and visualizing large data sets
  • Demonstrated ability to present technical material to a non-technical audience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently toward timely completion of a variety of assignments
  • Experience working on complex engineering systems in a team environment
  • Experience with signal processing and machine learning is a plus
  • Ability to be productive in the face of ambiguity
  • Adapts quickly to obstacles and changing demands
  • Sense of purpose and desire to achieve results
  • Work performed in a climate-controlled office environment
  • Primary duties performed in a seated position
